HANDCUFFS

Handcuffs are a device in the form of two metal bracelets that can be locked with a key, usually connected to each other by a small chain.  They are used, as a rule, by law enforcement agencies or non-governmental organizations performing similar functions to restrict a person’s freedom of action by shackling their arms or putting them on their hands. There are several basic designs of handcuffs:

  • with swivel joint
  • with chain connection
  • plastic.

As a rule, mechanical handcuffs are made with a full rotation of the chuck. According to the physical location, the areas of application are normal, finger and elbow. These models are ordinary handcuffs (operational), the main property of which is the speed and simplicity of their use in relation to the offender by an employee of the operational service, they are two bracelets connected to each other by a short chain, which constitute a design (unlike hinged ones) most convenient for putting it on an actively resisting offender.

In models of convoy handcuffs, which, unlike operational handcuffs, are made to complicate their unauthorized opening, this is achieved due to the fact that the bracelets are connected instead of a chain by a rigid hinge and can only be rotated in one plane, or do not have a hinge at all. The keyholes of escort handcuffs are always located on one side of the bracelets; thanks to the presence of a hinge, the possibility of opening them independently is excluded, even if the handcuffed person has a key in his hands.
